Immigration

In the story by Martinez, he turned in the immigrants who told him their stories at the border. The immigrants openly gave him their story, but Martinez turned them in, for what he thought was their own good, after listening. Do you think that his actions helped the illegal immigrants or hurt them? If you were in Martinez's shoes, what would you do? Would you physically help the illegal aliens or would you turn them into border patrol. If you did help the immigrants, how would you help them and what would you do to make their lives better? If you turned them in, would you explain your action? Would you feel guilty for breaking the law or turning the immigrants in?

If I was in a position like Martinez, my action would really depend. If the immigrant was a diabetic like in the story, I probably would have turned him in to the border patrol just because his life was in risk. If he was healthy and nice, I would probably help him and get him where he needed to go. If he was rude, I probably would turn him in. It would be a tough decision to make, and I would probably feel guilty for breaking the law, but I would feel much more guilt if I turned the immigrants in because I'm sure they go through hell before they get deported.

I personally don't believe in borders
animals don't develop borders so why should we? But for the sake of laws I would have turned him into the border because i wouldn't get in trouble for somebody i don't know. In the story the guy was sick so again i would turn him in because it's for his own good better to help keep the guy alive than let him die and well that wouldnt help the guy at all.

If I were Martinez, I would have preplanned what I was going to do after I picked up an immigrant. I would have checked all of thwe routes that I could possibly take that would avoid border patrol or any other risky areas. Any healthy immigrant would have helped them by bringing them so a safe place, in return for them giving me their story. Any sick immigrant i would not pick up or i would drop them off.

This is a hard situation. I would want to help people, I understand that they want to better their lives. But, on the other hand, it is against the law.

If I was Martinez I think I would have told to. Just because of the simple fact if the police knew I was holding someone under cover I might be punished for their mistake. So to answer your question yes I would have also told.

If I was in Martinez's shoes, I probably wouldn't have picked up a stranger to begin with, but if for some reason I did I probably would have turned him in. I would have felt guilty about it because he is a human being, but it was for his own good, he was sick and needed to get help. Not only did the guy need help, but helping someone come into the country is illegal for a reason.

I like to help people in any way that I can. But these types of situations where you are thinking- help and be punished or don't help and they might die. I know from others' experiences that crossing through the dessert isn't easy. I guess if I was Martinez I would have only helped by providing them with supplies, just to give them a little push to continue their goal or dream. After all we are all immigrants.

Well, I'm not really sure what I have done. I am really afraid of getting in trouble with the law, so I am leaning towards turning him in, but I also think that I would have felt terrible if I did because I would really want to have helped him.

I believe that in this story Martinez made a good decision. It's illegal, and if he got caught it would hurt him more than the immigrants. If I were in his shoes I would do the exact same thing. It's not that I would want to, I understand they are trying to better their lives. But you can't risk your well being for their's.

The reason which i understood for Martinez turning in the immigrant was because the immigrant was ill with diabetes and thought that if he had handed the immigrant in the immigrant would be helped or hospitalized. If a hospital was nearby I would probably help the immigrant get there but in the case that the immigrant was not sick I wouldnt want to get involved for the mere fact that I would be jeapardizing myself if i was caught helping the immigrant sneak in.
