Writing for self-expression
Does anyone else here write for self-expression? Sometimes I find writing to be an important and helpful way for me to externalize my thoughts, and make sense of problems or situations that I'm struggling with or that are confusing in some way. Somehow the act of writing and seeing my thoughts on a page (or a screen, as the case may be) helps me organize my thoughts and digest things a little bit. Both of the readings we discussed in class are just that: people writing to make sense of a significant and perhaps confusing situation in their lives. I'm interested to find out if anyone else has tried something similar - be it in a journal or in the margins of school notebooks. It could be as short as a poem (like the one by Morales) or as long as a short story (like the one by Jack). It could even be just rambling on about whatever comes to mind. What works for you?

I, myself, have a blog where from time to time I find it easier on myself if I can go to it and write down what my thoughts our about a day in general or specific situations within the day. By externalizing my thoughts it somewhat relieves me of just holding them in and allows me to think about them more clearly because I can see them rather than having to jump around in my mind.
I personally never did stuff like this. I am not big on writing, I usually take my problems up with my friends.
When I have a tough decision to make, I find it very helpful list on paper the pros and cons of each option. This way I can see which option has more pros, while keeping in mind the cons that i will encounter with each decision. After I have finished listing the pros and cons it usually becomes very clear to me which option to choose.
Personally, when I feel like I'm going to explode with emotion, I write my thoughts down. It is actually very theraputic to see what has been bottled up for so long. Even if what I write down makes no sense to me or anyone else, looking at it all makes me feel alot better.
I totally agree. I love to free write because it helps me better understand some of the things I think and the things I might want to say.
I think it is good to use to express yourself. Sometimes it's a good way to blow off steam.
I have written things to my friends on facebook and myspace before, but I don't have a blog of my own. I posted on forums for my other classes in junior college when I took some online classes and they really helped me because I got to write directly to my teacher.
I have never expressed my internal thoughts like this before. I personally think that I always have spoken my feelings. This should be a new and interesting experience.
